Cat attack!!

Recommended Posts

The best way to deal with that problem Richard is to offer to take them for a cup of coffee/sandwich. You soon find out what the money is for! My friend used to do that - he had some unpleasant responses.

On the other hand my Aunty has struck up a lovely friendship with her former Big Issue seller....

don't feel guilty Richard at all, you're a very kind person!

if people have the time, i think that's a good idea Tina. I saw a 'bag lady' once, hanging around our local shopping centre (a warm place to be) but there was nowhere for her to sit down so I bought her a cup of coffee, just so she could sit down for a bit.

didn't take more than a minute, simple things like that make a difference- i didn't sit and chat with her, just enabled her to sit down in the warm for a bit.

you don't have to make friends with 'them' (I use the term encompassingly not derogitory) but that is a nice story about your friend, I always buy a big issue but don't give to beggers for many varied reasons which I don't feel is appropriate to go into on this forum.

p.s. if there is anyone from a charity reading this, IMO the best way to go about getting donations or asking people to increase their donation is via TV adverts (which you get for free I believe?)

I started donating to the red cross because of a TV ad but when I started to get deluged with 'begging letters' I stopped! I did ring them and ask them to stop sending me 'junk mail' but they carried on for months, in the end, enough was enough.

I think they pass on your details to other charities too as we then started to get begging letters from Oxam too!

anyway, if anyone fanices starting a discussion about charities in the nesting box, I'll see you there ;) I think I've hijacked this thread for long enough.

The RSPCA even sent us a cat/dog blanket once, totally unsolicited, asking for a donation!!! We don't have a dog or a cat- so I gave the blanket to my SIL for her dog, kept the pen and recycled the letter!

I refuse to feel guilty or emtionally blackmailed by these people any more.

I REALLY resent the way some charities go about things.

Moan over!

:shock: I wonder how much it cost to send out blankets at random!! Surely that is a waste of charity funds. ? I give toseveral animal charities when I can afford to but I too hate getting the leaflets and free pens etc that come throught the door all the time.

[ but I too hate getting the leaflets and free pens etc that come throught the door all the time.

Ditto - and I get a lot of free biros that aren't very good and are really a total waste of time them sending out.

Its hard to know what to do really .... so I end up being really apathetic and doing nothing!

you could try adding yourself to the Mailing Preference Service, it really works, stops unsolicited junk mail but not all of it unfortunately. You can also contact the charity direct and ask them to take you off their mailing list. A pain but it will help, we still get the ocassional thing from Oxfam (despite asking them not to send anything!) but nowhere near as much as we used to get.

I hate it too because of the waste of paper and ink etc etc
