Happy New Year Liverpool, European Capital of Culture 2008!

Recommended Posts

It's all going to be a very exciting year no doubt - but I just hope that all the building work gets finished soon - it's a nightmare at the moment!!!!

Liverpool is a great city with fantastic people and there's loads of things to do. Paul McCartney plays at Anfield in the summer and I understand that Ringo will be headlining a concert at the new stadium. There are naked men on the beach by us but I'm not sure how long they are going to be here so you'd better hurry up!!!!!!

Happy New Year to you all!!!!!!!!!

I like Liverpool! WE sometimes go to a market there & it's great! There are some scally's selling allsorts, but you can pick up good bargains!

When I lived there for 4 months whilst at the medical school - we had some great parties, went the Everyman theatre for our tea - as there was a restaurant run by students....the lemon sylabub was to die for. We then spent loads of time in the Philharmonic pub doing karaoke!!! Weekends were spent down Matthew Street & in The Cavern. Exceelent time of my life!

I know The Everyman very well, there's a monthly poetry night in the bistro (3rd room) run by 'The Dead Good Poets Society' of which I am a member and we saw Brian Patten and Roger McGough there in October (in the theatre bit not the bistro). They do nice veggie stuff in the bistro too and it's a very relaxed place. 8)

Poet - Is the everyman open on Saturdays - The bistro bit? I've always wanted to take my mum there & go back in time a bit to the good old days! But we would only be able to go on a Saturday really & do a bit of shopping too. I seem to remember the bistro closed at weekends?

THere used to be a nice Italian too near to Matthew Street, god knows what that was called. I also remeber nipping the off license in Prescot street & getting a telling off from a prostitute for being on her patch!!! As if we all looked like ladies of the night!

I also remember India buidings & queueing for my passport! Grrrrrrr

A walk round Albert Docks & Fred the weatherman jumping about on his floating weather map! Good old Liverpool!

We've been to El Macho which is good, it has a nice conservatory at the back which is great in the summer and they have live Mexican music some nights. Last time we went, the only table left was right next to the PA system so they gave us free Margeritas to help us cope with the noise 8):D
