puffball
Just make sure that you have a barrier to stop the woodchippings from spreading. And trust me they will spread.
Chicken Licken
Hi there I used bark chips last year as omlet recommended and they get wet and slippery and smelly. This year I am using Aubiose/ hemcore and change it every 6 - 8 weeks - much better. The log roll edging just goes around the edge of the eglu run and stops them from kicking it around the whole garden. I am much happier with it this year and will jsut regrass the area in the summer when I move the eglu and run back out onto my allotment. Carol U
I use a mixture of bark and hemcore. The hemcore stops the bark from getting slimy and the bark stops the hemcore from blowing about too much.
chrisnrob
We have used bark since out girls arrived in May last year. We followed the Omlet guide at http://www.omlet.co.uk/guide/guide.php?view=Chickens&cat=Eglu%20guide You can see our finished area here http://club.omlet.co.uk/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=13529 However, we are switching to wood chippings next weekend as I've been reading about bark chippings harbouring a fungus which can cause respiratory disease in chickens If you want to fence them off then you could use this http://www.omlet.co.uk/shop/shop.php?cat=Chicken%20Extras&sub=general&product_id=22 as it can be moved around to restrict their access to certain areas of the garden accordingly.
