Berkshire hens
Hello all, I have read a couple of posts in the chicken sections raving about hemcore as bedding. Is this compatible with bunnies too? Many thanks, Jim
The Dogmother
Yup, it's fine... they love it and it stays dry and doesn't smell.
laceway
I use Hemcore for my Guinea Pigs and top with hay every day. Guinea Pigs are messier than rabbits and this is an excellent base for bedding. Doesn't clog up and doesn't smell. It's an all round good product and I'm really glad I read about it. It keeps the floor dry too and must be better for the animal for this fact alone. As it's a plant material it's compostible also.
pepe
Good question, I,ve often wondered if hemcore was ok for buunies, Im always begging for newspapers. What if bunnies eat it, will they be ok, and wheres the best place to buy hemcore and what size bag should I get? sorry so many ? but any advise would be great. The Dogmother
Ask around your local feed/horsey stores for it. It comes in a large, compressed bale - one size only.

pelicano
Yeuch - my bag did. I can still remember the smell now! Maybe I had a bad batch, but it is definitely enough to put me off using it again.
The Dogmother
Hmm, I can't understand that at all - it is virtually odourless. I'd be inclined to get some from another supplier if you can. The good thing about it is that it absorbs odour, so even when it has loads of chook poo in it, it doesn't smell much. My bunnies are very happy with it.
