lozkate
Just been to let the girls out and collect the eggs and found a HUGE egg. They are normally around 52 - 58g but this one is 98g and enormous. My only concern is that there is quite a lot of blood on it, I know this is probably because it is twice as big as normal rather than red mite but should I be worried or is there anything I can give her to help her recover from the experience! Egluntyne
As long as her rear end looks OK I shouldn't worry. One of mine laid a largish blood streaked egg recently. I examined all their vents and they were all fine, with no sign of any blood.
chickencam
One of mine occasionally lays large eggs with blood on them, but is fine, it's always worth checking that everything looks like it is still in the right place though. Poor chook I know what it feels like to lay a child I can;t believe a big egg is much better

My White Star Dippy has laid for 19 days now without a day off and before that she had laid for about 16 days with only 1 day off in between What a star if you will excuse the pun Egzeena laid one of her eggs with blood on this morning she has not done it for quite a while it wasn't even that big and there were sopts of blood on the wood shavings in the nest box too, but she looks ok and is tucking into a spring cabbage as we speak
lozkate
She has laid again today so can't have done any harm, I did think that she may have needed a day off though! Kate
