Rona
Just seen that evening news is running a story on chickens
Rona
It was a short report by Chris Choi on the condition of broilers and the "gait test". More publicity for the plight of cheap chicken. Hopefully they will show it again on the late news.
Lesley
I'll try to remember to watch the 10 'o' clock news then - it was easier when it was 10.
Egluntyne
It was on the BBC news at 10pm.
Snowy
Saw it - and the bloke from Tesco stating that they are still committed to ofering people the cheap option Despite the government research now confirming that the intensive farming method is cruel. mayflower
Yes, I saw it too. Glad that the chickens in poor conditions are still being given a high profile, but really cross with Tesco and their so called 'consumer's choice'. Because the supermarkets know the power of effective advertising, they could persuade customers to pay more for free range and organic chickens. Furthermore, how can it be real consumer's choice when there are only a couple of free range and organic on the shelf. It is so dishonest. Eyren
Furthermore, how can it be real consumer's choice when there are only a couple of free range and organic on the shelf. It is so dishonest. I think the point is that the consumer has already chosen - people here are reporting supermarket shelves stripped bare of free-range and organic chicken It'll take time for the industry to catch up with consumer demand, particularly since happy chickens take longer to raise. I just hope they can do it before Joe Public loses interest. And that no-one buys ultra-cheap Tesco chicken in the meantime!
