jojo2305
Hi, I'm interested in aquiring a few hens in the near future and I'd like to rehome some ex-bats as I think they would suit us nicely. My question is- does anyone know of anywhere in the northern parts of Scotland where ex-bats are rehomed from? Thanks in advance!
Egluntyne
Hello Have a look **here** The northernmost rescue co-ordinator appears to be in Perthshire.
ali-s
I've had my name down for 3 or 4 ex battery hens for a couple of weeks. Jim Duff the coordinator has a huge list of people waiting to adopt. When I phoned him he told me he could rehome over 700 hens. Whereabouts are you? Welcome to the forum
SLK69
Hi I spoke to Jum Duff too who said though he could rehome 700 he was only likely to get 100 chooks needing homes. So I called Adele BHWT in Lancashire and am driving down on the 28th of this month to get 5. If you were definetly interested I could maybe collect some for you too? I am in Renfrewshire (430mile round trip) total madness - but just feel battery hens deserve a second chance and might act grateful for their new life in the shape of extra tasty eggs And how eggcited are we? Our purple cube arrived on Tuesday and we have unpacked it in the living room and keep admiring all the parts - need to wait till the weekend to assemble as have to go to pesky work Can't wait for my rescue chooks to live in their purple palace. Rich & Ange
That is a shame to hear he doesn't think he will get many hens to re-home. I have just e-mailed him for an update and am waiting for an answer, but I suppose I shouldn't hold my breath for the chickens!

I am in Renfrewshire (430mile round trip) total madness - but just feel battery hens deserve a second chance and might act grateful for their new life in the shape of extra tasty eggs There was a thread about this a short while ago....apparently collecting hens for others is only allowed if the proper channels have been gone through.....I'd hate anyone to be disappointed. Just a note that I removed a post about ex batts being collected from a rescue and being passed onto others. It is policy that all rehomers must contact BHWT direct please. We need to know who is rehoming and go through the rehoming procedure. Sure you will understand the welfare of the hens is our main concern. jojo2305
Oh dear, what a long list that must be! I hadn't realised it would take so long to locate some! Ali- S I'm very near you. Unfotunately Renfrewshire will be too far really- but thank you for the offer, very kind. I'll keep a look out in the Scot-ads in case there are any needing homes there. We are only looking for 3 (I say 3, we shall see how many we end up with!) As the wait is likely to be quite long for the poor ex-bats, is there anywhere local that could get us started? Is the happy hen hoose still operating? And Thainstone is coming up- is this a good place to look? Probably not, I'd come home with ducks! Thanks- Any other ideas would be appreciated! SLK69
Sorry for previous reply - I would only have collected ex batts for some one who had made their own arrangement - I just felt if I was driving 400 miles anyway and someone else was keen to rescue chooks it could have all worked well - Happy for my post to be deleted. Egluntyne
You are right ...it makes sound sense.....but I remembered the previous thread and thought I'd better just mention it, so that any plans made weren't dashed. I don't know if a mod will delete things or not.
Rich & Ange
Jim Duff e-mailed m back and said it is likely to be seveal months for any new people going on to the waiting list and most of the people already on the waiting list to get their ex-batts. Happy hen hoose does appear to still be running, their website is saying they still have hens. Middlemuir poultry is where FeeMcg got some hatching eggs and they apparently have hens sometimes. I am getting mine tomorrow from poultrybyak. I will let you know what they are like. They are based just outside Inverurie.
