emily95
my friend has just got some new chickens, she's had them about a month and they've started to lay. She lets them out of the run every day into the garden. They don't lay their eggs in the nesting box and as soon as she lets them out they run around the garden looking for a place to lay the egg. Is there a way she can teach them to lay their eggs in the nesting box instead of hunt for them every day Thanks Emily
Snowy
I would suggest that they be kept in their smaller run until they have laid, then let them out later in the day. Also stick a couple of fake eggs (or golf balls) in their nest boxes.

Krysia
Yes once they get the hang of it they will be fine, We used golf balls initially and have now expanded to 2 eglus and a cube, the new hens although they sleep in the eglus go into the cube to lay so all the eggs appear in the same place.
