Steph101
We've just bought a new chicken to add to our little flock (I know how dodgy this is, we are introducing her VERY CAREFULLY)... She is called a Hyline Brown. Can't find much about them on the internet. Can anybody help? Jimbo
Snowy
Hi Jimbo, a hyline brown is a commercially produced hybrid for the battery market. Hy-line is an american company, this is what they say: The Hy-Line Brown is the world’s most balanced brown egger producing over 320 rich brown eggs to 74 weeks. Peaks in the mid-90’s, begins lay early, optimum egg size. I think it is probably a hybrid of Rhode island red x either light or white sussex/rhode island white. Similar to the gingernut ranger/ISA brown etc.

Steph101
Thank you, that's all I could find out about them too. Judging by the conditions they were kept, they looked like they were all destined for the battery market, poor things. I wanted to take tem all! She's cute, I'll try and get a picture.
