lazela
Our girls arrived just over 4 weeks ago. They looked like they had settled in well and although we haven't had an egg yet I am optimistic that one will arrive soon. The garden looks like a swamp...and I have been somewhat concerned about all the talk of chickens liking a good dust bath...but where in all the mud would a girl go for some good ol' fashion dust wriggling. Well I ventured to the bottom of the garden this afternoon and discovered their own bathing area...right by the compost bin, which is tucked up by the fir hedge . The hedge must provide good protection against the weather and suck up a lot of the rain. I am so proud that my girls are resourceful
Sheilaz
They always work out the best spots don't they? Glad to hear how well your chickens have settled in & that you have obviously taken to chickenkeeping. Looking forward to hearing more. Sarah B
Mine have found a dust bath in our garden that is a swamp too - it's currently under a bush in a quite boggy bit of earth? I'm so glad I didn't fork out for a home made dust bath for them. I'm new to chicken keeping but one thing I have learned in a short time is that they are very resourceful at getting what they want and being very cute for treats! Eyren
When I dismantled my eglu and run to clear up the bark base, mine were straight in there, dustbathing in the dry bit of earth that had been under the eglu
MedusA
When I saw one of my girls dust-bathing in the garden for the first time, I thought she was unwell!!! One of mine sounds like a motorcycle when she's happy bathing. It is the weirdest noise.
