Hi everyone, i have landed the job of making my nieces birthday cake this year and she desperately wants a thomas one. i have looked at some recipes and they are all really advanced for a novice like me. so i may have to resort to buying one from sainsburys although i would rather make it myself , has anyone got any ideas?

swiss rolls, licorice wheels, some roll out icing coloured blue / buttercream. Circle of white roll out icing with a Thomas face drawn on it with squeezy tube icing bought from supermarket. Use lots of sweeties!!!

You could just make the face from the front - it will be a lot easier...

Just use Google Images for ideas

they both sound great but can you get the icing already blue as the last time i tried to use food colouring i got in a right mess!

Yes, you can. Do you have a cake shop near you? - if not I can let you have details of an online one.

 

There are lots of cake-decorating shops in Ebay - thay are good and will send stuff very promptly. They will also work out just what you need if you phone them up.
