Abbey Road Girl
My Cube and run will be in a fixed position that used to be full of shrub roses until the next-door neighbours paved over their entire garden so their children could "drive" their plastic cars. Unfortunately the one living thing they left to grow on the boundry was bindweed. (They were from Australia, so perhaps they just thought it was pretty, which it is.) I expect that it will come up in the run, so I'd appreciate any information or advice. Will the chooks eat it? Or might it be harmful? superjules
Mine didn't eat it last year but they did scratch a lot of it up. I got my first chooks in september though, so it was starting to die off by then. I'm waiting to see what happens this year as the site of the walk in run has always been rampant with bindweed, no matter how thoroughly I dig it out. jomaxsmith
I really hope they do as it there is a problem with it in the area that will be their summer run. We were controlling it with weed proof membrane which we've now taken up so hopefully the hens will eat it as the shoots appear! Jo
Egluntyne
I've got masses of bindweed in the front garden....I might bring one of the chickens with me next time I do a bit of gardening there!
Abbey Road Girl
Wow, that they scratch it up and eat it is great news! Thanks for the link, Super Jules.
ajm200
Mine scratch the weeds up and leave them scattered all over the flowerbeds for me to rack up. They seem far to spoilt to eat weeds They've done a brilliant job of clearing moss and ground elder from the lawn too.
