rachel m
does anyone else get this done? the previous owner of our house had arranged it is their children had messed up the lawn playing football and she wanted to arrange one last treatment to make it nice again for us the man came today and said that although it is pet friendly, we should keep the chickens off the grass for 2weeks or the treatment may upset their tummies 2 weeks seems a long time at the moment, when they have only recenly been allowed out and seem to really enjoy themselves, but we don't want to let them get poorly because of it just wondered if anyone else has had this dilemma. we will try to make a tempory enclosure on some bark chippings, but the grass is always greener... Egluntyne
I have them come 4 times a year. I just keep the chickens in their own little area for a week or so....as soon as it rains the treatment disappears into the soil anyway.
SharonX
Hi, I have Greenthumb & they came last just after I had started letting the girls freerange. I phoned Greenthumb & they told me not to let them on the grass for a couple of days. I went out shopping and came home to find Hubby had let them out not realising Greenthumb had paid a visit. I was frantic with worry, put them away & phoned Greenthumb again waiting to hear the worst. I was told there was nothing to worry about they may just get a bit of an upset stomach. Thankfully even this didn't happen so I am less worried now. I would just leave them in for a couple of days to make sure. I am wondering whether to even bother with Greenthumb for much longer. My grass was beautiful before the girls arrived. Not so good now!
abwsco
I've just cancelled our Greenthumb as I think the chickens are going to mess the lawn up so much it won't be worth it.
jomaxsmith
I had Greenthumb booked for our first treatment then we suddenly got our chickens. I spoke to the lady there and she pointed out that the treatment was a herbicide and fertiliser, neither of which i would really want hens to eat and transfer to their eggs. koo2cat
We have Countrywide LawDoctor (same thing as green thumb!) and they came this week and put fertiliser down. I asked the man if it was okay for chickens and he said yes it was but the weed killer isn't. We kept them off it for one whole day and then it rained so we figured it would be okay. They seem okay so far! Not sure the lawn needs fertilising now I have chickens pooping all over our lawn!
