SeasideChick
Hi all, I have had my WONDERFUL chickens for 2 weeks now. Because we live in a very fox populated area, my hubby built a great fun 5 x 3 mtrs placed upon paving slabs for extra security against Mr. Fox. They have aubiose all over the slabs for them to scratch around in. I am hoping to let them out into a sectioned off area in the garden when I am around. HOWEVER, I worry that the birds are bored. They haven't laid anything yet ... we are waiting anxiously as we think it will be any time now but they pace up and down - sometimes almost running ... and are VERY vocal. When I spend time in the run with them, they follow me around all the time. I have put CD's up, bird toys, mirrors, tree branches etc. to stimulate them. i give them "greens" every day, and corn in the afternoon. Is there anything else I can do to make them happy??? Should they be having more food????? Any suggestions VERY GRATEFULLY received! Thanks a lot guys.
BooBoo
I wouldn't worry - I think you are probably doing more than enough. Sometimes I forget that Rosie and Ruby are 'not the brightest pixies in the forest' They aren't like dogs or cats and I think people over estimate their need for stimulation. They have everything you have mentioned (I rotate them for novelty), but they seem fine just being able to s"Ooops, word censored!"e around and be with each other. Yesterdays entertainment - ignored my hanging cd and found a larger than usual bit of bark they found amongst all the other bits of bark. chelsea
I dont think you can do anymore than what you are doing to be honest Their habits will change once they start laying - for a start they will eat a lot more so hanging up stuff like broccoli/spinach etc will keep them entertained.
