advice needed re mortgage if poss

Recommended Posts

can anyone give me some advice here, it's adding stress to my already stressful life at the moment.

we had a homeowner loan with 1st plus last year which was paid off in september. we thought it was done and dusted!

went to ask our BS (building society) for a further loan on our mortgage to buy the motor home and were told yes, all fine. Filled the forms in, sent them back and was then told 1st plus had left a note on the land registry to say we hadn't paid their loan off!

rang 1st plus last monday the 7th and they said they would put thru an electronic notification of discharge which would take up to 5 days to go thru. It's now the 7th working day and our BS are telling us it's still showing and until it's removed, they won't give us the momey!

rang 1st plus who said all should be okay and to tell our BS to put their application thru!

if we don't complete the purchase by the end of april we may lose the motorhome and our deposit on it.

basically, we're being told by our BS that there is a problem and by 1st plus that there isn't and we're caught in the middle. I asked our BS to speak to 1st plus which they said they have done and they've done everything they can to sort it out.

i just don't know what to do from here, i've got to dash to see dad soon so have asked DH to phone both and try and sort it out.

can anyone offer any advice?

TBH I would trust BSoc more than First Plus...

Ask FirstPlus to fax/send proof that it is all done and dusted - either to yourself or to the BSoc?

If they say they can't find out why not. Ask to speak to a manager if you are not satisifed.

In your place, I would visit the Land Registry web site and download a copy of the record for your property (you will need the reference number). It costs about £4, I think. Either the notice will have been removed, or it hasn't. If it hasn't, I would telephone the Land Registry. They won't be able to remove the notice for you but they might be able to say if a removal instruction from 1st Plus is in process (in case 1st Plus are not telling the truth).

Afternoon Rachel!!

Sorry I've been quiet. spent w/end freezing by lake, with windsurfing son, and Yesterday went to the dirtiest spa in England...

Hello, Kay - I love windsurfing but haven't done it for years and usually prefer it to be a bit warmer than it is now ...

Yes, I've been reading about your spa experience - I'd have been really angry and disappointed. I mean, what should have been special and memorable pampering, a "because you're worth it" occasion, was spoiled.

Back to the topic ... :):)

Working in a bank the best piece of advice I can give you is to get the full name of the person at First Plus who tells you that it has been sorted, in my experience they are then far more likely to get it sorted for you because they will be scared of any comeback on them if it isn't!

Good luck :)

i've worked in cust svcs for about 19 years, believe me, i know the importance of getting names, the change in attitude frome some when you ask for their full name is laughable. it's hopefully all sorted now :D

As others have said I would trust the b/soc more than first plus. But I would trust my own eyes even more. Get yourself a free 30 trial on your credit report

http://www.experian.co.uk/

You can see the loan and you will get email's to notify you when there are changes - then the loan will read "settled" and you can get straight on to the b/soc.

I actually subscribe - its handy, just yesterday I realised my name had been linked from my old address to another address in Basildon that I'd never heard of by Ambrose Wilson. Now I don't do catalogues (except gardening ones!) and I know this has NOTHING to do with me but it happened a few weeks after I evicted the dodgy tenants. Ambrose Wilson were very helpful and confirmed they have sent goods to that address and will remove any association with myself on reciept of a few documents from me - apparantly there is no money outstanding yet but soon will be! If I wasn't monitoring my own credit rating I would have had no idea about this - now their fraud department will be on to it rather than it stuffing up my credit.
