jomaxsmith
Gamebird - mash goes sour very quickly when wetted so I don't think you're supposed to feed it damp (unless you do a treat-style porridge that gets consumed in seconds ) Jo
Gamebird
Thanks for your advice. I can see your point but I only give them enough damp mash to eat in one day and I only a small amount of dried mash on the ground but not everyday. Also, I'm worming them with Flubenvet this week and I didn't want the powder to fall to the bottom and be left uneaten. Maybe I should stop the ground feeding and give them something else to scratch for. They should change the name from layers mash to layers ground pellets. It makes it sound like great dollops of gloop
superjules
I was also thinking about encouraging vermin by scattering mash on the ground. The only food I scatter for them is mixed corn because I know that it will be hoovered up in minutes, leaving none to attract rats.
Gamebird
I was also thinking about encouraging vermin by scattering mash on the ground. Very funny superjules I live in the back of beyond and in all the years that I have been living here and been keeping animals we've never had a problem with rats not even on our compost heap which is full of leftover vegetables, horse manure etc. But then I've never kept chickens before so I think I will take your advice and only scatter things they can be eaten reasonably quickly.
