mcphail
Hi. Does anyone out there own any Light Sussex hens (the older version not the hybrid)??. I have one who will be coming into lay soon and I just wondered how they compare on egg quantity and size to the hybrids.
Christian
Winifred my hen party 'demo' chicken lays lovely nearly white eggs, 6 days out of 7. Nice thick shells and very tasty eggs (even though all our eggs are tasty ) I would definitely recommend light sussex hens, will be getting them again (one day when OH finally agrees to more hens)
TAJ
I have a pure bred Light Sussex - they are one of the highest layers in the pure breed class - about 250 in the first year. I get cream eggs, they are not massive (58g) but very nice and she is so pretty. They are a good choice if you want a pure breed with a high egg production Tracy
Cinnamon
Fern, my Light Sussex (& probably a sister to Christians girl) lays lovely cream eggs every day - yes every single day, at the same time. She is a nice hen, a bit skittish maybe, & my top layer at the moment
mcphail
Brilliant..I look forward to when she starts laying! I have four chooks all the same age. The 3 hybrids started laying a couple of weeks ago so we're only waiting on her.
