near disaster!!

Recommended Posts

this evening i went into the run to collect a couple of empty bowls. as is the norm the girls all ran to the door as i got to it. On opening it I managed to keep them all inside. I collected the bowls and on trying to get out and keep the girls in as my 2 dogs were in the garden mabel got out and alfie promptly pounced on her and had her in his mouth!.

I dropped the bowl and grabbed alfie who dropped mabel who ran off down the garden pursued by alfie who was pursued by me. he grabbed mabel in his mouth again but i managed to get him to drop her again and put him inside the house.

On turning round i realised the other 5 were all out and about being chased by lucy, my other dog. Lucy seemed to be playing as she didnt make any attempt to get hold of them.

I got her inside and then checked them all over.

Apart from a lot of feathers flying around mabel seems unhurt. No blood drawn etc.

I put them all back in the run for a while and as I type they are all happily free ranging around the garden with not a care in the world!

I am absolutely furious with myself for letting this happen, thankfully they all seem fine. alfie is in disgrace in his bed.

oh dear! I should think a chicken would just be too much temptation to a bull terrier. Sounds as if you have had a lucky escape, there have been posts on here from people whose chickens have been killed by dogs, their own or neighbours.

Hope Mabel soon gets over it - she's probably a bit stressed, but if there's no blood then hopefully she'll settle down soon.
