Weird Colour Feathers

Recommended Posts

A couple of weeks ago, i got 3 brand new chickens and an eglu. 2 miss pepperpots and 1 gingernut ranger. :D

when i went out today to shut them up for the night, i found chilli (the ginginernut ranger) with white feathers all round her neck and legs.

is this normal???

it was raining pretty hard, could that have anything to do with it???

Hi there and welcome.

I shouldn't think it's anything to worry about at all - we have 2 gingernut rangers and one has distinctly lighter feathers than the other.

When they arrived in January you could see that one was darker than the other, but now Pansy has quite a lot of white feathers and it is much more noticeable. From what I gather they are hybrid crosses of the Light Sussex and another breed and we just think that she has slightly more of the Sussex gene :D:!:

If you look at photographs of the ex-batts, you will see they are ginger and white - because lots of their underfeathers are on view which are white. As the feathers grow back, the white disappears. The ex-batts should be a variation/the same colour as the gingernuts.

I've often wondered why they all seem to have white feathers :? . Thanks for clearing that up for me :D .
