joe14
Well they've been here a week now and seem to be settling in fine. Still on Tesco eggs mind but I'm willing to wait Now I keep reading about "mash" when chicken feed comes up. Now at first I was thinking "mash"? Spuds? Anyway I've worked out its not that........ (sorry I'm slow) but what exactly is mash? Also when I open my eglu at 7am the chickens dive out at 100mph like bullets!! Have omlet ever thought about a remote controled door that could be operated from bed? Then I could let them out earlier without having to get up Just an idea....... Just one other thing I'm gonna have to clip some wings tonight. Mrs Robinson seems to think the grass is greener on the other side!! Shes worked out that if she stands on the top of the run she can then clear the netting!!
Egluntyne
Layers mash is hen food in powdery form rather than in pellets.
joe14
Do you powder it down yourself or buy it?
Stevie
Nope-its already in powder form.Apparently, its recomended for chooks which spend much of their time confined to a run because it takes them longer to eat so keeps their minds occupied. I've bought a small 5kg bag today to see whether mine prefer mash or pellets.
debbie26pet
mine love mash, i bought small bag and they have eaten it all, so ive been today got a big bag, they go mad over it in powder, but u can mix it with warm water and make it like a mash and they still love it, ive been told good for winter keeps them warm. i do have pellets soem left and am putting them in as well till i used up then will go totally on mash
bronze
I would say it looks like a rabbit mix with extra corn and things thrown in. Its not a powder as such.
joe14
Ok thanks for the replys. Ive mainly been feeding mine on pellets so far but I'll look out for it when I'm next down the pet store. I'm basically looking for variety. Mine seem to love oats, rice and sunflower seeds. Thanks agian guys!
Egluntyne
It is messier. They scatter it about and it can get a bit smelly if left on the ground. I have weaned my ex-batts onto pellets for that reason.
