I'm confused about Molly - she was showing definite signs of broodiness and still does if you find her on the nestbox but she's only missed one day's laying . She's not pacing round the (closed) run any more so perhaps we've snapped her out of it quickly enough?

Are you sure its definitely her laying? Henrietta pinches eggs from the others and roosts on them. Could Molly be doing that?

I hadn't thought of the salt content. I will try pellet porrage, that sounds a much better idea. Thanks TAJ.

Yes, it's definitely hers. All my 3 lay totally different colours which is handy .

 

She laid again today so perhaps she's over it . (Typical, someone at work's bringing in a dog cage for me tomorrow )

I am now down to 3 broody's

 

Doris was broody for about 4 - 5 weeks The last week I think she lingered because the other 3 went broody the same day and she liked the company

 

She was really thin by the end - I made sure I threw her out of the nesting box twice a day and gave her corn and porridge with vitamin suppliments and tuna in.

 

They have all stopped laying since going broody.

 

I have tried ice blocks, dunking and shut them out all day - so much so it was almost completely dark last night before I remembered - 7 chooks balancing on the cube ladder

 

So the next thing is the crate which OH keeps promising to do
