cluckbok
Hi ya everyone! We are off out tomorrow to meet you lovely fellow Omleteers! at Barleylands. Well I started worrying about this hot weather and leaving our chooks so just been out and bought a water fountain drinker, was only £2.50 for a 3 litre one. We already have a glug but wanted to make sure they definately got enough while we out. I filled it up and put some nice ice in for them and they love it. A lovely cool drink! Pleased with myself now, done something good for my girls!
HENthusiastic
A water fountain drinker eh? That sounds posh. Have you got a picture? Ice cubes indeed eh Have they got little umbrellas and pink straws
cluckbok
Sorry not got pic but OH could put one on later. If you imagine a saucer with an upside down mug on top with a hole in the mug at the lip, that's it. Got it from CWG Country Store. Just thought it would be handy now weather is hot, no risk of running out of water. Not added the pink umbrellas or straws yet hhmmm
HENthusiastic
Oh I See! I've got one of them! Very good description. I was imagining something ornamental with water flowing out of the top and back into the bottom, like a posh version of drinking fountains you used to get in schools (before we all became obsessed about germs). Good idea to put ice in when it gets very hot. I shall remember that. ps I tried to see your hencam, but it didn't work. I did click on the 'try another version' button, but no luck. Shame. Watching your hens would have brightened up my dull Friday afternoon before I get to go home and look at my own girls!
cluckbok
Oh will tell OH cam not working, I don't do technical he will be able to fix it. We do also have a water fountain outside of the run which circulates the water back round, theres a little saucer on the bottom which catches the water and when the girls are free ranging they drink out of that too, it's nice like the old fashioned ones at school though Just found a prob with those drinkers, the girls kick the hemcore up when they scratching around and they filled the bottom of the drinker and dried it up!! So I went in there and cleaned it out. Suppose you can't avoid that unless you place it somewhere off the floor. Not easy in an eglu run though. Ange1
I've seen photos of those hanging from the ceiling of an eglu run using strong to keep it off the ground!
meezers
I have one of those. I have it on a couple of bricks - about 3 inches off the floor, they don't kick so much muck in it like that.
