FruitandNutCake
My Dinky started laying 2 weeks ago, and produced a couple of double yokers during that time. I think she laid for about 10 or 11 days, but stopped laying. I thought they just had one day off, but today is the third day. Is this normal, or has she got one stuck in the pipework?? She seems healthy and is acting normal - is she just having a long break and when should I start worrying? meezers
I have no idea, sorry, but my Elsie laid for 8 days, then had a week off, laid 1 more then took another 3 weeks off ! She's laying again regularly now, but I won't take it for granted that she'll lay everyday. All my others are regular layers, think I've just got one chook working part time
Ain't Nobody Here
My Molly laid 10 small eggs last September/October then stopped till the end of January. She nows lays like a trooper!
FruitandNutCake
Wel, we are now on day 6 of her break! I'm not too worried as she seems heathy - and I've had them less than a month. I was just surprised that she was laying some whoppers, and now laying nothing! Luckily I'm still getting one a day from the other two! I'm just hoping Dinky is laying again when the others have their break!
FruitandNutCake
11 or 12 days later - Fair dinkum pops out an egg ( I suspect a couple of softies yesterday over night). But this egg isn't a normal egg - it is huge. She was laying 50-60g eggs, with a double yoker at 74-78g every 5 days or so but this one is 98g That must have hurt
Hen Huggers R Us
Our girls have been laying eggs every day and apart from 2 softies laid by one hen that had only just started laying, have never missed a day!! Today Amber our white hen laid a whopper! largest egg yet, tried to weigh it but dont have digital scales but definately in the region of 80g. Is it normal for them never to miss a day?? I hope they carry on, Bluebelle is still laying every day but they are on the small side.
cluckbok
My Matilda had about 4 days off and I though what's going on, I want my breakfast Then all of a sudden she started again. I think you never know if something has upset them, the warmer weather or thunderstorms or anything like that. Perhaps that may be a reason?? Or perhaps she just wants a holiday
surferdog
Sorry my chickens (apart from Coco) are NOT normal so cannot offer any advice Coco, our little ranger, lays day in, day out, regular as clockwork. The other two are completely bonkers and have breaks because they have laid 3 eggs each in 24 hours , have laid softies or because they have gone broody when they are still babies (yes Sylvie I do mean you...) And we've only had them 6 weeks! Well no-one ever told me chicken-keeping would be dull....
Tiggy
my Bubbles has only ever laid 1 egg, real free loader I suspect she is younger than the others although they arrived at the same time, crouches some days & not others, is a real cheeky character
FruitandNutCake
Well, thinks are not going well. Dinky laid her 98g egg, laid one that was normal size and has since been laying 2 softies at night. I'm going to see if I can get some lime stuff, though she is having ground eggshell and grit - the same as the other 2!
