Egg Lou
This is a website that you can order organic feed online and they have lists of stockists:www.organicfeed.co.uk It mentions Shapley Ranch as a supplier, but she doesn't stock poultry feed. Again the cost of ordering online is a bit extreme, but I guess that is because it is bulky. BOCM Pauls do "Farmgate" poultry feeds (organic), but the nearest stockist is in Theale! Trying to find out anything on the SCATs website is awful! Will let you all know what we find. Just done a quick comparison on ordering online.. works out not too bad as postage fixed at £5.90 whatever the order but you have to order a minimum of 4 x 5kg bags.. this can be a mixture of pellets or corn.. If I don't get anywhere with the other sites we mentioned it may be worth looking at having a bulk "stokey group" order delivered?? I'll still check wokingham on wednesday as collection of 20kg bags would be far more ecomonical
Valkyrie
Hi Peeps Popped into the Scats in Winchester - some bits, but only their own brand of feed - GM free. Bought garlic powder (2.98 for 500g), poultry spice (3.32 for 450g), Verm-x (34.95 for 1.5kg - but expiry date lasts for a couple of years), Stockholm tar (5.49 for 450g). Then we popped along to Farm & Country Supplies and they have organic feed. Layers pellets is 12.99 and corn 12.50 (strangely enough the louse powder has VAT on it but not cider vinegar ). The fellow is ordering a bag of growers pellets for me, so if you would like me to pick up any for you girlies, let me know. It is just past Alton on the way to Selborne, before the lavender place. Their phone number is 01420 83254, but if the lady in the stables can order it, then well and good - and nearer. Not too bad for me because I am often pootling along that road - son's girlfriend lives the other side of Hampshire! I am about to be ousted from the computer, DD coming home shortly! Egg Lou
Oh well done! To be honest I didn't manage to get to saddlers today as meeting over ran.. I'll try again tomorrow.. also can call the place from Conkers but still not sure about brands.. except Marriges?
Valkyrie
We also popped in behind Conkers - but it was closed! Did spot a couple of turkeys wandering around - wondered if one was called Easter and the other Christmas!! We didn't get back, although I was armed with a Practical Poultry advert for Farmgate. The one I ended up with was Organic Feed. The one at Alton does the Smallholder range too - prices not marked, so I didn't ask for those. Some of his stuff was more expensive than Scats - but all that travelling to find bits here and there - why can't they stock all relevant bits in one place? He didn't do Diatamaceous Earth - he said pet shops tend to do it for chinchillas! We also ended up with poultry netting that can be turned into an electric fence should Mr Fox visit us. OH being his usual businessman self has requested (again) that I work out the costings, so now I have been working on a spreadsheet. Does take the fun out a little. I rang the place in Theale, left message - they never called back, guess I won't be shopping there then! Also Pets at Home have layers at 6.69 and corn for 7.99, both 20kg, non organic but GM free. It's been a busy day! Goodnight all.
surferdog
Well done Kooije! If you need costings there was another brilliant thread on here that worked it all out (I daren't work out how much I've spent on chickens in the last two months). Thank you for the offer of picking up feed from beyond Alton, I may take you up on it! Alternatively maybe we could club together to get a delivery to one of our houses to minimise the P&P. I'm happy to deliver or pick up - what do you think? (Promise I'm not a mad axe-murderer but I guess they all say that )
Valkyrie
I would be more worried about being licked to death by the dog! No problem, I'll PM you with my phone number - Egg Lou, if you want I'll pass on my phone number to you too. I'll see if it works, so fingers crossed for a dippy fat woman! Egg Lou
Excellent work! I have now got results with the other way too.. although happy to go with which ever is easiest! I have spoken to the Saddlers in Wokingham.. they do stock organinc pellets and mixed corn from the "Organic Feed Company" £12.95 for 20kg layers pellets £12.50 for 20kg mixed corn Have asked if they do mash and he will find out.. They only keep very small amount of stock but with a weeks notice will get whatever is needed.. I could collect lunch times and be courier...or if we all order together ( so min of 3 sacks) he will deliver to the Old Basing saddlers so we can collect/buy individually from there.. Any good? surferdog
Lou, that sounds great. I'm happy to order a sack whenever as am more than halfway through the one I have. It's lasted seven weeks so far but their appetite has increased dramatically so it's going down much quicker now.
Egg Lou
No prob.. I'll wait to see what Koojie wants to do and then order.. I want pellets and corn so thats three sacks already.. however it may be easier for me to collect next week.. so happy to either ask for delivery or bring all back myself! Knew they were worth a shot! I haven't gone back to the pet place by Conkers yet.. TBH she put me off a bit with her attitude so really happy the Saddlery has come good! Valkyrie
Hi again Thats good news - Egg Lou - I would be happy to join forces. At the moment I am stocked for the corn and pellets, but the guy has ordered the growers pellets - while we were in the shop (pretty keen he was!). Not sure yet how long they will last, but I guess it won't be long before I find out. Regards
