Is this a cause for concern?? being turfed out of nestbox

Recommended Posts

Cocoa has recently been not wanting to wait for Sugar to lay her egg in the morning and has turfed her out of the nest box to lay her own egg, Sugar has been going back in after her, but today she hasn't laid at all yet, and she's normally an early layer? I know it's not a problem for her to have a day off etc but I dont want it to be because Cocoa is shoving her fat bum in the nest box over the top of her and that puts her off.

My question, is it possible to add another nest box so that this doesn't happen, or should I leave them to work it out on their own?? I really dont know :?:

also cocoa is plucking at her own feathers when she's in the nest box.. I take it this is her being broody?? she'll come off the egg, and then I take it away, but theres been her feathers in there recently.. not loads, but some.

any advice please. ??

Mods feel free to move this to eggs if it needs to, but I felt it was more suited here.. :)

I'd leave them to work it out, but if you wanted to put a heavy shallow plant pot in the run with some bedding material in it. one of them might use it.

They do prefer dark and a bit of privacy though, and one nest box should be sufficient for 2 hens.

thanks, :) I guess I will monitor it a little more, there's plenty of room in the eglu if I wanted to add something like this (I could always get hubby to fill the bottom of the bowl with something to make it heavy) I will keep an eye on them then I guess. But still no egg from sugar, it really put her off this morning
