Broody bantam

Recommended Posts

My SLW has decided that she is going to sit on eveyones eggs as well as her own. I have been chucking her out of the nest on a regular basis but this is going to be a bit difficult as my new job takes me away a lot more often. I thought when they went broody that they stopped laying?

She is eating and drinking OK but does try to peck if anyone goes near her on the nest box. Will a quick dunk in a bucket of water really work? And if it does any tips on how to catch her? Should have called her Lightning not Lacey :D

I haven't got a picture, but I use a mesh pet carrier with some clip on food and water bowls. Raise it up on bricks to increase the airflow and pop it inside the rune, under cover so that she can see the other hens. She will need to be in there 24/7 for 3 days.

The idea being to increase the airflow and cool her down. She will make a racket at first, but wil then chill out and be fine. i will try to remember to take some photos of mine tonight and post them.
