MadMitch
I haven't got chicks, my girls were 6 weeks old when I got them. I took out the roosting bars filled the trays with aubiose and have the cube on the ground so they can get in and out. I have also replaced the cube ladder with a wooden ramp for now. bronze
You can't put them in with other chickens at that age
puffball
when i hatch them i use a rabbit hutch and put them and the mother in there -that way there are no awkward ladders or other hens to hurt them- also be sure to use shallow drinking dishes so that they don't drown themselves! good luck
puffball
i'm afraid i don't know about that - personally i wouldn't rely on her to stand up for them! i think it would be okay to introduce them at POL but before nthat would be alright if they seem able to take a bit of pecking order! hope this helps x
moomin
I haven't got a clue either, that's why I wouldn't hatch chicks. It needs (from what I have read on here), quite a lot of experience What I do know is that you can't mix fully grown chickens with chicks that are a lot younger, as they (the chicks) won't be able to defend themselves. I don't know whether the mother would play a big part in protecting them from the rest of the flock if you put them all in together. I expect someone will be along soon with more experience to advise you
Snowy
Hi Laura, There is a section in here somewhere about hatching chicks. I've had a look for it but it seems to have disappeared I'll find it if I can, but in the meantime it is definitely worth doing as much reading about it as you can Aaah - here it is, it was right above this post all the time! http://club.omlet.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11297 Sorry, another one - here is a link to hatching under a broody: Hatching Article
