My baby chicks will be here in less than 3 weeks! Hatching 6 eggs under my darling Drumstick. I have bought the chicks crumbs for the wee ones. Now....will Mum eat the crumbs too, or should I provide pellets for her? Just don't want the chicks to choke if they accidentally get hold of a pellet! How does everyone else get on?

She will eat the crumbs too, and they're just what she needs to get back into condition after brooding for so long. You can give her some pellets if you like, but put the feeder up too high for the chickies to reach.

My hens and chicks (and cockerel!) are all eating the chick crumb, but I've noticed that the hens also peck the layers pellets (and anything else they come across) into pieces so that the chicks can manage them.

kinda strange my chooks eat only bird seeds and as a treat bread

they really hate them pellets... very strange
