jomaxsmith
I've just been to Homebase and a couple of local builders suppliers and they only sell bark or massive 1 ton bags of Woodchip. The woodchip I need to replace has been down since we landscaped a couple of years ago and I bought a large bag - but this time I don't need as much and don't want to spend £60 on it! The chooks have been on it a few months and it needs replacing. I don't have a B&Q very close by but I know they stock it. Any ideas? Thanks Jo
Couperman
Is there a tree surgeon near you? I've heard they often give it away. Worth a try! Kev.
stoice
I noticed my large B&Q doesn't stock wood chip! (It used to) Now it just has muclhing bark (Which I have read here is not advisable due to fungus in the bark) or blue coloured wood chip (?). I'm not sure dyed wood would be a good idea. So I am also stuck for a good supply. No-one sells Auboise near me either (Which I have also read on here is a popular choice - I like the the thought of a citronella version too) Any ideas (Sorry, I know this doesn't help you jomaxsmith though, does it?) bessandra
I bought mine at the weekend at Focus - £4.99 for a 100 litres.
shaun
Hello all I tried finding woodchip the other weekend - Wickes, B&Q etc - to no avail. All they had was bark - which folks on here have said to avoid because of fungal spores etc. Ended up spending a lot of money on a bag of the small stuff that goes in reptile houses!! Not that good as it's very small. Then somebody at work today suggested going on freecycle.org.uk and asking on there - so I've just signed up! New2this
Hi, I use to get mine from B&Q too but went this weekend to find it's been replaced with 'pine wood bark' which is not the same. So I'm in the same predicament. It looks like it might be worth me looking at Focus then (I didn’t know they did them). I’ve just signed up to Freecycle so will keep you informed if I have any success there too. Christine.
jomaxsmith
Thanks All, Have just rung my nearest Focus and after initially getting excited that they said they had it I asked them to check it definitely wasn't Bark - and it was I think I'll have to go with Bark as I need it in a hurry - it's for their outside run so hopefully the spores won't be as much of a problem as if it was a covered run. jackiet
Found a local farm that recycles wood chip from local tree surgeons etc. They have mounds of it and you take bags along to fill yourself (spade provided!) As long as you can lift the bag all they charge is £1! What a bargain and it's good stuff too
stoice
Cool! Every garden centre should do that too. Just need to find somewhere in Essex for me!
