Popcorn
I've been for a long weekend before Laura, but we camped! I'd ring up Touirst info and get them to send you a list of B&B's, or Pubs. I can say whatever chip shop you go to will not let you down! Fabby fish & chips. the little town is lovely for pottering about too. If you fancy a ride out somewhere Ilkley is also lovely, as is Ilkley Moor. Hope you have a lovely time.

Guest
Ooooo lovely I went there about 9 years ago with my sister! Very olde worlde town - lots of fish and chips. Dracula's castle ruins are there! Robin Hood's Bay isn't very far away and is really pretty - a bit like Cornwall! Castle Howard is around there - where Brideshead Revisted was filmed. Also there is the place where Heartbeat is filmed (but can't remember the name of it at the moment). York is supposed to be a lovely place to visit but we didn't get round to it. We stayed in a deluxe caravan a few miles outside of Whitby which was really nice. I think you'll love it! Sophie x
chocchick
There is a shop selling "Whitby lucky ducks" which are small glass ducks. I remember having fish and chips, and walking up loads of stairs to I think some kind of monument at the top (does anyone else know what it was? ) We went to Robin Hood bay. There is a folk festival every year and also a goth festival
Guest
Was it whale jaws or something? I probably dreamt that knowing me! Sophie x
Guest
Actually, it's two whale ribs!!! East side market - where all the crafty type shops are (lovely). Kipper factory - again, up on the East side. Folk festival - in Aug some time (v. good - if you like that type of thing - I do). Whitby Abbey - worth the climb. Sorry, can't recommend anywhere to stay though. Jangle
I've been visiting Whitby regularly for 37 years now, as my Mum comes from there. I usually stay with relatives but Bagdale Old Hall is a nice hotel, and just a couple of minutes walk from the quay. The Tourist Information office has loads of info on hotels so giving them a call would be a good idea. Go to the Magpie Cafe near the fish quay for the best fish and chips ever. Be prepared to queue though. The museum in Pannett Park is really interesting and the shopping on the East Side is great. On the West Side Bothams Bakery in Skinner Street is the best Bakery in the Universe. It also has a good tea room. Heartbeat is filmed in Goathland, just inland. Have a lovely long weekend and I envy you greatly.

Cate in NZ
Have a great weekend Laura. I've never been there but little sis works there from time to time and says it's beautiful. Mind I sometimes think that anywhere that offers a break from routine and normal domestic responsibilities is beautiful Lost of lovely sea air for you .... I hope you get some sunshine too
