I am wondering if I should leave the patch where the eglu and hens will be going when we get them next weekend? Would they appreciate a bit longer grass?

Shorter grass is probably safest as hens can get crop problems if they eat long grass. Even if it is short, it's green, tasty (apparently ) and they'll love it .

I'd mow it. Long grass can cause them problems.

Aw sorry to hear you have no sunshine. We have had our fair share of the wet stuff recently so it is nice to be able to get the garden nice for when the girls arrive next weekend.
