Hello

We took delivery of a new cube last week and put it together but we seem to have some extra gaps.... well we think so.

The problems that we have are that when we look at the roof there are gaps between the side walls and the roof, on the Left hand side about 3/4 inch at the front edge, down to an 1/8th and on the right hand side approx 1inch gap at the front to about 1/4 inch at the rear. If these are drainage channels they seem big are these collect?

Then at the rear of the roof to the rear wall there seems to be a gap that runs corner to corner at the top. Under this gap is a air vent gap which allows air into the cube. Is this correct?

Does anyone have any photoghraphs of these areas on a new or newish cube?

Has anyone got a cube built up by Omlet which has been put up in the last few weeks?

If yes please could you look and inform us as to are there any gaps....

Don't panic: the gaps are supposed to be there. Here is a picture of the top of my Cube, put together by Johannes (the designer) in person, as it was one of the very first:

 

Do inspect the Cube after heavy rain, as that is the only way you can be sure everything is all right. But don't worry about the gaps. I queried them, and was told they were essential.

The photos give us a relief as regards the roof to side walls but is there an extra gap in your rear wall to roof above the air vent.

It is just when you put up the cube yourselve there is no photograph provided by Omlet to show you the finished item or the gaps. Could be something they should do.

I have two cubes. One has no gaps at the back. The other has quite a large gap on the right-hand side but not on the left. This suggests to me it doesn't have to be too precise. The one with the gap has never leaked in the slightest.

 

Maybe someone who put their own cube together can give advice: I was spoilt.

 

Would it be a good idea to have a sticky with advice on cube assembly? It doesn't look easy. And there could be warnings about the pitfalls -- such as the fact that the wheels don't swivel, so that turning is tricky.

Quiet agree that stickers on items and their pitfalls. Their answers should be given on a fact sheet along with pictures of given gaps and other solutions.

I don't think the gaps at the back are intentional. When I built ours I had to do a bit of tweaking to the metal side brackets so that it all went together without any sizeable gaps. I also bent the lid brackets a little so it went together better. People have posted pics of Cubes built by Omlet with gaps at the back so maybe I am too fussy

Here's what ours looks like.

 

 

 

The gaps at the bottom are slightly bigger, I think these are due to the side panels being slightly warped. I couldn't do much about that.

 

I think small gaps are not a problem, but I wouldn't be too happy if I could put my hand through them though.

ive just bought a second hand one and put it together last weekend. We have had the saem problem a really big gap top left of the cube between the wall and the roof. The gap isnt so big on the right hand side. We have tried to pull in the brackets and make it fit a bit more flush. Surely it shouldnt be like that if one side looks ok and the other has a massive gap?

 

just read the cube leaking threads now as well, i better go and check fro leaks. No chickens in it as yet, so ive not looked inside since we put it together. Ive got to say how surprised i am at the run size, and the cube size. Smaller than i had imagined.

this is one of the reasons why Im not keen on my cube.

 

Ours has gaps, it doesnt leak though, but Im one of these people where everything has to be neat and tidy and straight etc!

 

You dont get gaps with the eglu.

Haven't got any pictures, but ours definately doesn't look as snug as yours Coupermen, and the top of the lid as pictured by Gallina is same on ours.

 

James from Omlet put ours together and I have to say I've had no problems with it - although it does tilt forward due to the slight slope its on and someone else did this to rectify their leak. (Sheila I think)

I have similar gaps to Gallina's cube on mine.

 

Mine didn't leak before it went into the walk in run.

I was surprised when Johannes put my first Cube together at the large gap on one side and none on the other, but he said it was correct, and as he designed it he should know!

What would be nice if Omlet stated in the detailds that go out with the product that gaps in the connecting panels is normal.

Also photos of a cube would also help.
