hens gently moving eggs

Recommended Posts

On the first day that all four of mine laid, I was astonished to see that the first three eggs were tucked up neatly in a row at a safe distance from the sitting hen.

Given that they poop any old place and that they scratch without care for where the dirt flies, I found it odd that the three eggs would be carefully arranged. Perhaps it was just some freak accident.

Today I opened the egg port and saw Truffle use one claw to gently move one of the others' egg aside.

So far I'm the only one who has accidentially broken an egg!

they are very gentle with the eggs already laid we have 3 nesting boxes but they are seem to cram into the one that has 2 eggs in it already and carefully step over it and lay another in the same box...in fact my Ginger snap loves to lay where another egg lies she will move boxes to sit in one with an egg in it already...and yes I'm worried about breaking their precious gifts too....lol

I love to watch them sitting on the eggs. Mine gently nudge all the eggs underneath themselves. Some days, if I haven't removed the eggs, they will sit on them for ages, especially at this time of year. They are almost in a trance. When I take the eggs away, they sort of snap out of it and get off the nest 8)
