some people have found shining a torch through the port hole works - or maybe with a cube you could slide the roof forward and shine it in that way - they tend to make their way to it.

Thankfully mine all read the instructions manuals and found their own way to bed, both when I had the eglus and when they moved into their cubes :D

some people say shining a torch through the egg port encourages them into the cube/eglu

you could try the broom method.....a gently coaxing behind them with a broom to steer them towards the cube/eglu

failing that - pick them up - they wont struggle. they are all dozey at night. :)

Thank you for your advice - i was having a panic, in the absence of a torch i tried the broom and they would not budge so i ended up crawling in and putting each one of them to bed one by one - my husband now thinks i have completely lost the plot!!! Heres hoping tomorrow night they can do it for themselves!!!

I'm surprised that you had this problem. When my Cube was installed around lunchtime, the Omlet man put the hens into the Cube so that they would have to go down to get food and water.

Unlike you, I had to do a bit of coaxing from behind with a broom to get them to go down the ladder. When it came to beddy byes, they figured out that they must get up the ladder (however clumsily) to roost.

Good for you for resolving the problem. Hopefully all will go smoothly from now on!
