Janty
I'm mean. My son is also an only child (like me). He 12 and he gets £1 a week paid into his bank account and £1 a week pocket money. We do say to him that if he gets a merit from school that's a bonus £1 so there is the opportunity to earn more by working hard. We also pay for his clubs though. Saturday morning football club has been a godsend. He can only go if he has completed all his homework to a good standard (including getting all his maths questions correct!) Being ADHD he is up at 5ish in the morning anyway so he has plenty of time to do it. Told you that I'm mean.
Helly Welly
Your'e not mean at all. You use what works for you . That's what strikes me about all these posts, we all do what works best for our particular situation. No child is going to be scarred for life because they get little or no pocket money. There are so many demands on our pockets nowadays and children need to learn that just because one person gets £X it doesn't mean they're entitled to the same amount.
