Velma chick
Hello, this is my first time, i wonder if any one can help? I got 3 Ex Batts last November and all have done really well, until 2 weeks ago when we had to have one put to sleep, the vet said sour crop amongst other things, very sick, now another seems to be unwell, totally different symptoms and i'm scared we are about to lose another. She's acting a bit wierd, seemed off food for a couple of days but mostly symptons seem to be standing as if in a trance, and just falling asleep at the drop of a hat! she might be preening then while her head is under her wing she'll just go! she has her eyes closed a lot even when walking sometimes, she does that thing with her beak sometimes stretches her neck to the sky with open beak and her breathing sounds a bit rattly, but otherwise eating, drinking and running round the garden, oh and i think she's stopped laying. any thoughts? Many thanks!
Egluntyne
She could have worms. They tend to stand around with a hunched attitude if they are infested. Has she been wormed recently? Have you noticed anything untoward about her poo? A course of **Flubenvet**, an all round wormer with no egg withdrawal might be a good idea Welcome to the forum by the way! Velma chick
Thanks for your reply and welcome! she's not hunched exactly just stands still with her eyes shut and seems to fall asleep all the time! also lies down at every opportunity and seems to go into a deep sleep, it doesnt seem too terrible but this is definitely not her usual behaviour, she also goes to bed early! her poo was very runny for a couple of days but seems ok now and no she has never been wormed in the 7 months i've had her! should i do this? Egluntyne
I think I would. She doesn't sound well, and the symptoms fit.

Velma chick
i've just been online to buy someflubenvet, it seems very strong, is it ok to give to her when she's not well and i'm not 100% sure what she's got?
chelsea
its not going to harm her worming her . If she hasnt been wormed for 7 months it could possibly be worms that is making her poorly. A hen with worms is quiet, hunched and quite miserable looking. Gapeworm can also cause head shaking and gaping of the beak (as if gasping for air). if you really arent sure or are worried further I would suggest ringing or visiting your vet. Egluntyne
You only have to give the tiniest dose Velma chick. 1 tsp per 4 kg of pellets, to be eaten over 7 days. Or if you prefer, a tiny pinch on a halved grape daily. If you are worried, then it always best to speak to your vet. Good luck.
