Running low on food

Recommended Posts

My wife has gone to Spain for the week and is due to return (hopefully) on Wednesday Afternoon sometime.

On Friday evening, I gave the chickens the last of their food hoping that it would last them until she got back.

Yesterday (Sunday) I was quite worried about how much had been eaten and what was left. I wouldn't be surprised if there was next to nothing left when I got home tonight let alone for another 2 days!

So, what can I give them until the wife is home to get more food (I can't due to the hours I work - and lack of car - she has it!)

Yesterday I threw in 2 apples, an old banana and a stale stick of french bread (about 6 inches long soaked in water).

All of this was gone in about an hour!

Other than getting rid of all the old fruit (well, there are only apples left), I have no idea what I can give them.

I do have some unused grain from my homebrewing that I could give them (malted barely) but again, I have no idea if this is going to cause problems.

Please Help :)

Kind Regards,

Weetabix or other bland non fatty or sugary cereal. Best mixed with water to a possidgy consistency.

Sweetcorn tinned, rinsed. Don't go mad.

Cooked potato of any sort. It MUST be cooked though.

Greens such as brocolli.

Pasta. They love it.

Can you phone a friend :D and ask them to pick up some layers pellets for you?

The suggestions will keep body and soul together, but are not ideal.

Don't expect any eggs for a while. :D

No sure about the grain you suggest.

Thank you all for the replies ;D

After all the effort I went to, buying myself pizza etc. it ends up that I'm going to have to do some cooking after all :)

I get some potatoes and pasta going. I'll also throw in some sweetcorn and broccoli (I am sure that we have some left).

That should hopefully keep them going for the next day or so.
