Hen Time
I'm excited too and keep reading, researching and joining in with everyones else's excitement. Anyone else got a delivery in Kent? I have ordered two hens to come with the cube. This all started for me though because I wanted to rescue some ex-batts. I am thinking that perhaps I should change my order with omlet for the hens and just put in an order for ex-batts. Do you know how long the wait is for ex-bats? My original idea was to get two hens, get used to keeping them, then add some ex-batts but I am learning that I cant really do this without having a separate area and introducing them gently. Has anyone else had this dilemma???

beach chick
hi Hen Time, I'm in Kent and am on the list for 2 ex-batts - the next rescue is the end of August I think, and I think you have to collect from somewhere near Tonbridge. depends if you can wait that long!! I originally wanted ex-batts but then couldnt wait and went for 'normal' chooks... info is on the BHWT website and there's a Kent coordinator you can phone - no email though. Hen Time
Thanks BeachChick that is good to know ... I will have a look. I have found a chicken supplier (not ex-batts) in Teston too, and they have a few different hens by the looks of it ... I may well end up with 6 at this rate! Yolky
It did seem to go quickly. Now I am wondering about having the poor chooks in my very wet garden. I don't know if a very fast trip to the DIY shop for paving slabs is in order. Thing is we were going to wait till we had them a little while before we decided where to site them on a more permanent basis.

Electricbarbarella
cool, I can't remember are you having ex batts, if not what breeds are you getting? I am just on my way out, I have cleaned the house from top to bottom and even done ironing in a desperate attempt to pass the day. dh will be very suprised when he gets home. quickcluck
Thought about ex batts, but feel I need to do the 'healthy' hen thing first to get my confidence... will get a ranger (brown), amber, coral, blue, fenning black, pied suffolk, maybe a speckled.... how about you? Which area are you in?
Electricbarbarella
i am in Sheffield, I am also going down the healthy hens to get the hang of it route. Next year I would like to either get some ex batts or hatch some eggs but we will see. I am getting 2 lolan brown (gingernut) a black rock a white star a light sussex and an amber star. I chose them all last week. Still can't wait, I got back in and it is not here and dd is not asleep either oh well back to my pruning. Not til the 25th though Cube is coming tomorrow fingers crossed, am hoping for a bit of dry weather! Yes it is Hen House Poultry, a guy called Ben emailed me back very quickly following my enquiry. ALso one, of the other Maidstone 'bloggers' has told me since, she got some hens from here too, but recommends getting them on the same day as the arrival date of the Omlet Hens. That assumes the omlet delivery will be on time! I am so excited for you, and I can't wait to hear what the first day and first night are like!!!!
