I don't know if anyone saw this guy on Richard & Judy earlier this week,making a home made McDonalds burger using REAL meat,which was actually good for you & tasted identical, but he certainly caught my imagination.

 

I am going to try his Heinz ketchup this week (if I can work out what corn syrup is ), & may try the McDonalds burger next week, just to see what the family make of it

I made some ketchup last year and the family moaned that it tasted too much like Heinz even though they like Heinz, I think it was the ground cloves

What a fascinating site! I’m going to try the ketchup too - I don’t know about corn syrup either, but in the comments someone had used maple syrup and someone else tried honey – both successfully (although the honey one was a bit sweet).

I managed to get corn syrup on ebay, from an English import company.

Its used in a fair few of the recipes,so won't go to waste

I'm only guessing, but I think that Golden Syrup might be similar, if not identical, to corn syrup.

My American relatives said not - they'd never heard of Golden Syrup so when they were over here, I showed them. They said it had colour and flavour which the corn syrup they used didn't.

From the research I have done,Golden Syrup has a similar consistency,but is much sweeter & stronger flavoured.

I agree that Golden Syrup has more flavour and sweetness than the blander American corn syrup, at least to my recollection (have lived here since 1986), but I think it could (with recipe adjustments) be a reasonable substitute.

 

Just as during WWII, people came up with inventive ways to make wedding cakes (not to say ordinary meals), there will always be ways to make nice tasting food and nutritional food possible using imaginative ingredients.
