We think we have red mite!

 

Our egg production has dropped and after inspecting the ends of the roosting bars we have seen small grey lice.

 

What is the best product to sort this out?

Yep sounds like red mite, give the bars a good clean and always sprinkle some red mite powder over the bars.

i thought red mite were red, not grey?

 

i think you need to clean more than the bars too, the whole set up will need a thorough scrub, in ALL the nooks and crannies.

Redmite are red when they have gorged themselves, and greyish otherwise.

 

You might find deposits a bit like cigarette ash on the roosting bars if you have an infestation of redmite.

I've heard the description "cigarette ash" a couple of times recently . What worries me is that the Diatom I brush over my roosting bars is a grey fine powder.
