Ange1
I've had my girls 7 days tomorrow how time flies?! A local lady Jane(Bletso Brown Equestrian suppliers) gave us growers pellets instead of layers, I was suprised, is this okay?! She knows that we only have 5 hens, but we have instructions to feed the pullets on growers until they lay and then swap to layers, I asked what do we do with the rest of the 20kg bag, as I susspect there to be left over, Jane suggested that we finished this bag and then swapped over. I've not heard much of growers more about layers?! As the name suggests is growers to try and fatten them up? I don't want to eat them ! Have I been ill advised? Thanks
Ain't Nobody Here
What age are your girls? I got mine at 16/18 weeks and they were put straight onto layers. I think it's OK to mix the two in order to move them from growers to layers so they get used to the new stuff. You might be able to use it up that way? I don't really have any experience of grower pellets though so hope someone else will come along who does!

Egluntyne
They are ready to go on layers pellets. You could mix them half and half if you have opened the bag. If you haven't....take it back for a swap.
Ange1
Thanks Egluntine. I've just emailed Karen at Merrydale to ask - as I forgot to ask how old they were when we picked them up. Karen was waiting to be picked up by the BBC Leicester for a TV interview after they'd interviewed HFW no less!!! I don't get BBC central news so I missed it! Nuggywoo
Growers pellets are designed purely to give the correct protein and nutritional requirements at the right stage of growth. Layers provides most of the required nutrients & vitamins etc etc Your girls are 18 weeks? They should be almost through the swap over stage. Growers won't hurt them (won't help them either) but if I were you I'd do my best to see if your equestrian lady will do you a deal. Swap 10/15kg of your layers for 10/15kg of her growers (plus extra as she mislead you )
