Drug-free relief from hayfever

Recommended Posts

Revnev posted a while ago about where to buy hard drugs for hayfever, on the cheap, and a lot of you posted stating how drugs were the only thing that worked for you, and other remedies were less successful. Well, I'll stick my hands up and state that, up until Monday, I was a Piriton girl - nothing else would even take the edge of the streaming eyes, streaming nose and constant sneezing. Then I discovered 'Haymax' in Boots - a balm that you apply to the base of your nostrils - It is absolutely FABULOUS!!!! No sneezing, no runny nose, no blocked nose at night (how does that work? One second it's streaming, the next I can't breathe?!), and amazingly - no itchy eyes! It's half price in Superdrug at the moment, and I can absolutely, thoroughly recommend it!!

On Saturday i popped into Lloyds Pharmacy and got an Allergy Reliever. Its this little machine with two probes that you put up your nostrils. At the end of the probes are two red lights. You switch it on and it automatically switches off after three minutes. You use it every 5-6 hours, which works out at three times a day.

Basically, the red lights transmit on two wavelengths. One wavelength promotes increased blood flow and circulation and the second wavelength (red light therapy) suppresses the cells that release histamine and reduces inflammation. You can use it with our without your normal medication.

Now my use of it has coincided with "Ooops, word censored!"py weathe and therefore lower pollen counts but i'll keep using it and let you know how i get on. It was only £20 for that and the air purifier.

The air purifier is wonderful. It makes the air really fresh, as if you had the windows open and you lived somewhere with no pollution. A bloomin' bargain.

Helly Welly - how far do you have to stick the probes up your nose :?: I only ask as YS's septum is bent in two places so he can't stick anything up very far (wonder if this is why the Haymax doesnt work).

I'm always interested in alternatives to tablets for him. :D
