dulciedoo
Can anyone advise me please. We took delivery of our 4 hens about 5 weeks ago. We were advised that 3 of them were about 18 weeks old & should start to lay in the next 2-3 weeks. The fourth was about 20 weeks & just beginning to lay. Within 24 hours we had one egg, and another 48 hours after that. Since then we've had nothing !!! About 2 weeks ago they all had a bit of a 'cold' but with a bit of TLC they've all recovered. Can anyone offer an idea why they aren't laying please... Dulciedoo
Earthchild
Hi dulciedoo Sorry, can't help with your dilema, I haven't even got my chooks yet, but just wanted to say ' Welcome to the forum ' and I am sure someone will be along soon with good advice. alih
as long as they are eating pellets and not too many treat, perhaps with a bit of poultry spice mixed in, they should get back to normal - if they free range a lot I would suggest keeping them in for a few hours in the morning to make sure they eat pellets before yummy slugs etc... HENthusiastic
They will be just fine. Give them time. I know its hard, but they need to be eating lots of layers pellets and less of the lovely treats to encourage them to lay. THey all start at different times. They will get there when they are ready and the eggcitement will be all the better for the wait. I have one girl who didn't start laying until ages after the other two (all the same age), then she laid beautifully for two weeks and then had a two week holiday! They will do what they will do! Enjoy.
Ain't Nobody Here
I agree, don't worry . One of my girls laid 10 tiny eggs within weeks of arriving, then had about 3 months off .
