little chickadee
Hi - we're going to the Shrewsbury festival in August and need to stay somewhere in our caravan the night before. Does anyone know Shrewsbury or have any experience of camping there? Any recommendations? We have Children and dogs, so that puts a lot of places out of bounds for us! Cheers Edited July 8, 2008 by Guest
Mrs Webmuppet
I love Shrewsbury, we camped there years ago I can't remember the the name of the campsite but it was on the outskirts of Shrewsbury. I can recommend the Cadfael trial & the Cadfael Experience ( if it's still there). The view from the castle is spectacular and there's loads of Ye Olde Worlde buildings in the centre.Loads of history.

Joojoo
Shrewsbury is my home town but I can't think of many local campsites. There are one or two on Wenlock Edge which is absolutely beautiful but possibly too far at about 15 miles from Shrewsbury (between Much Wenlock and Church Stretton). There used to be one at a place called Knockin Heath off the A5 towards Oswestry but I think that's gone. There is a touring caravan park at Oxon (just outside Shrewsbury on Welshpool Road) but I dont know what it's like. I'll see if I can find out anymore for you I hope you have a fab time though, I'm probably biased but it is a lovely town to live in and visit. Will you be visiting the Shrewsbury Flower Show too or is the festival on at a different time? x edited to say I found this one. It's 5 minutes from town centre by car. http://www.morris-leisure.co.uk/oxonhall.html
little chickadee
I think I've booked one now. Can't wait. Thanks for all your suggestions
Joojoo
Ooh where is the one you have booked? I notice they have got camping actually at the festival.
little chickadee
http://www.botvylefarm.co.uk/camping/index.shtml We chose the one nearest the festival site. We're staying at the festival campsite during the festival, but just needed somewhere to stay the night before as it's too far to drive from our house in the morning. Really can't wait - it's such a fabulous festival.
