craftyhunnypie
My Araucana eggs arrived this morning - all intact & a fabulous colour of green. I'm actually amazed by the colour. So letting them rest for 24 hours & will put them in the incubator tomorrow evening. I have been wanting Lavender Araucanas for so long. My sister also wants a green egg layer - so one or two will go there. So excited. Hope I have a bit better luck this time! Emma.x
StephanieSB
Emma, I will be looking out for news about how your hatching goes. Next year, after a year of chicken owning, I intend to do just the same, so I will really be watching closely to see how you get on. Best of luck! p.s. -- where did you get your hatching eggs, btw? ubereglu
Sounds lovely. I love araucanas, but everytime I see them for sale I somehow manage to avoid buying it!
craftyhunnypie
I bought the eggs from ebay. I know a lot of people don't agree with buying eggs from there, but my sister has had eggs from this particular seller & had great sucess. I don't buy from any old seller I do my research first! The cockerel & hens are in their second year - which I preferred & the stock looked healthy & in nice clean surroundings. The eggs really are fabulous in colour. I will take a photo later. They arrived in a poly box with kitchen roll in the base of each hole, to prevent any rattling. I paid extra for special delivery. I could have bought some from the poultry auction, but the colour was not fabulous (quite pale) & you don't know a thing about the birds. I could have collected the eggs from this ebay seller, had I got the time - so he has nothing to hide. I won them for £6.00 & paid £6.99 postage (special). So £12.99 for 6 eggs. I still think that is a bargain - considering how much Araucanas are to buy at POL ! Each egg would have cost me at least £2.00 at Wernlas. Not knocking Wernlas at all - they are excellent & fertility rate high - but I do feel I have a bargain here. My sister has had - chamois poland eggs, Buff orpington, freisian, frizzle, pekin, light sussex eggs off ebay - most sucessful. Best were the buff orpingtons & the freisians for fertility. Don't knock ebay - just be very careful & do your research before bidding! Emma.x
mrsm_jones
What sort of size are your lovely Araucana eggs?? I saw some hatching eggs at the Rare Breeds sale and the eggs were SO small, almost like turquoise silkie egg! Hence me ending up hatching a cream legbar instead. craftyhunnypie
Well they are small egg sized - a good boiled egg size tho..bigger than a bantam - just nice. I would weigh one - but dont want to upset any chances of hatching by messing with them. ?They are resting until tomorrow evening.
