Saving seeds

Recommended Posts

My radishes have bolted and gone to seed, and have gone really tall.

I was just wondering if they are still edible, and if I can save the seeds some how? They have got little flowers on them.

I also tried to save the seeds from a pumpkin last year, and only 1 worked this year :( What is the best way to save seeds?

Your chickens will love the radish tops. When they have bolted the roots go very woody. I personally wouldn't bother to save the seed. You have no guarentee that they will grow true next time and can be prone to disease. Radish seeds are pretty cheap and your girls will love the radish tops and then the vitamins from them will end up in their eggs. Great recycling :D

Have a look at this website: http://www.realseeds.co.uk/index.html - they sell seeds BUT encourage people to save their own seeds and there is not an F1 hybrid in sight!

You can download there seed saving instructions here: http://www.realseeds.co.uk/seedsavinginfo.html

Also if you click on any veg on the home page firstly you will get their seeds for sale, but scroll down to the bottom and it will tell you how to save your own seeds of that veg.
