stoice
My Bluebelle Mabel is finally a lady! She laid her first egg yesterday afternoon. Ok it was in the run, paper thin and got stomped on before I could rescue it but I thought I'd just share how proud of her I am. I've got a bully, Gladys, with a botty pecking habit who's in solitary until the bumper bit arrives - she always chased Mabel and Betty and guarded food etc. I was worried that the stress or lack of food would set them back. Nope. Obviously not. Can't wait to check tonight after work to see if I have another present. Good girl. Will have a girly chat with her tonight and tell her that now she should try for the nest box. moochoo
Well done Mabel! I'm sure she'll get the hang of it, the first one must be quite a shock
Chook n Boo Mum
Maybe that's why they produce softies or very thin shelled ones so they don't hurt so much first time?! I'm waiting for my rather redfaced Bluebell and Snowdrop to produce their firsts. Hopefully soon, DH makes comments like, "and how much is this egg worth now?" when Buttercup produces her (almost) daily present! Must do a spreadsheet to show him!! Another job for the holiday methinks - end of term on Friday.... Sha x
