Ideas on how to enlarge cube extension door?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

This is my first post on the forum, though I have been reading avidly for the last few months to learn as much as I can about chickens. My first girls arrived yesterday and they are just gorgeous (well they all are aren't they) -one Light Sussex and two Wyandottes. I would add a photo but the chances off pulling that off are very slim :?

A while back I read a very clever idea for making the cube run door bigger using an extra arch and hinging the front panel. Now that I am struggling to get in through impossibly small door this makes sense! I can't find the post now - any ideas?

Thanks

The post you are looking for is kept as a "Sticky" topic at top of Eglu/Cubes section. I did the conversion recently and it has made a huge difference to our lives - much handier for cleaning/feeding/etc and our kids love going in the run to sit with the chooks (tempting to lock them in at times - ha! ha!)

Anyway - good luck with it all.

PS - I am from just outside Glasgow and work in Glasgow, so count myself part Glasgwegian!

Thanks Sheila and SAB, I have ordered a frame through the link and should have it at the end of the month (hope our backs hold out that long!). Other half should be able to fix something up.

Good to hear of other Glaswegian chickens. We are west end (Broomhill) but are keeping a low profile as the house deeds say no poultry keeping! Have explained this to chickens and they have agreed to remain very quiet!

I used velcro strips that fasten like a cable tie but much easier to open - available from garden centres, diy shops, ebay. (Though also stuck a wee padlock on both the original door and at the top of my "new" door to deter chicken escapes aided and abetted by small children!
