pbfhpunk
As you'll know if you've read my previous post: http://club.omlet.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=28247 I'm not allowed to keep DJ with the others so we're buying an eglu for her, we also don't want her to be stuck on her own, if I buy 2 new chickens to go with her will that be ok? I'm guesisng they'll be less pecking as even though it'll be 2 new to one old one the new ones will afer all be 'new' and so won't have formed an 'allliance' so to speak, and so it would be like when we got all 6 to begin with - I'm hoping that anyway!! Even though I'll be getting the other 2 from the same place I'm going to get quite differnet looking ones so agian they'll all be different and trying to cause as little fuss as possible, the new ones will also be about 16 weeks whereas DJ is about 28 weeks and is probably the smallest of the original. Can anyone see this plan being an issue? I just really don't want to get another 1 and then later on introduce another 1 later on so it's 2 old against 1 new. Egluntyne
At 16 weeks they might be too young to go in with her. There was a catastrophe recently where someone, in good faith, have followed poor advice from breeder and a young chicks died.
pbfhpunk
Thanks for that, can anyone offer any advice I really don't want her to be on her own? Does anyone know where I can get some older birds from? Or what type of age would they have to be to go in with her? Am going to Omlet tomorrow to pick up an Eglu, so hopefully she'll be back outside tomorrow. Thanks Helen
Egluntyne
Tricky. Can you get some around 22 weeks? Any adult hens will behave towards her pretty much as your existing hens.

WitchHazel
Just a thought, but you could phone Sharon Gould at Pinvin, explain why you need older birds (22 weeks or more) and see what she has? She's only 30-40 mins from you. She usually has lots of pure breeds plus various hybrids, and when I went they were all different ages. She's a really pleasant and helpfu lady, and soooo enthusiasticl. I bought my Bluebelle from her 01386 554362
pbfhpunk
Thanks for that, apart from the ages, can anyone see a problem with my plan? I really don't want her to be on her own for long. TBH I think she can't wait to get on roosting bards again, I think she hates being stuck in a cardboard box, so hopefully this time tomorrow she'll be back out and loving it!!
