Seagazer
Does the egg change colour - I thought I'd read somewhere that it does towards the end of egg laying. I might have imagined that though Butch is broody so not laying. Her eggs are normally quite dark brown. Flo has only been laying for about a week and her first 3 or 4 eggs were fairly large and quite pink. All 3 girls keep going upstairs at once but only 1 egg is being layed and the last two have been large light brown eggs. So could these be Flo's and the colour has just changed or Butch is doing a sneaky one now and again and that they have changed colour? I really don't think they're Gingers, she has really small comb and still quite pink. It doesn't matter really whose they are - it just upsets my egg tally spreadsheet!! Edited - I'm sad - I've just taken and hopefully added a photo of the last four eggs - allegedly all from the same hen. I thought their eggs stayed the same. Am I mad? Ange1
I wouldn't worry about it too much seagazer As you say it's unlikely to be the youngsters with the undeveloped combs. I just wanted to say like your eggskelter, I've one too, and I can't wait until it starts to fill up! I see that you have a spreadsheet, can I ask what's on it please?! Seagazer
ANH sent it to me. If you pm her she will send it to you and you put your own hens details on it - it does the average size and a bar graph etc. I think its quite handy to keep an eye on how the girls are laying. I know its a bit anorakish but I like it! Thats the only reason I wanted to sort out the colour thing really. Next time I will have to get different coloured egg layers - but not until my girls have had long and happy lives I think the most I have had on my skelter was about 8 eggs, it looked fab
